Stewardship

Stewardship Thanksgiving Sunday 2005

Did you know that each year St Nicholas Church makes donations and contributions to many local societies? We try to support local organisations, charities, national and international ones.

Over the last few years these have included:

Christian Aid
Cubs and Scouts
Hackney Fund
Leprosy Mission
Meon Valley Home Start
Mission to Seafarers
St Lukes Hospital for clergy
The Childrens’ Society
Wickham Summer Play Scheme

And these are but just a few

We find ourselves in a position that we need to seek your help in the overall giving just to help us maintain our lovely historical church and to continue to support all those above and others.

October 2005 saw the launch of the Diocese of Portsmouth annual Stewardship Thanksgiving Sunday. This gave us an opportunity to review what we give to support the life not only of our church, but the work of the Diocese, and the Anglican Community in this country and world wide. By setting aside a Sunday for us to do this together, we did it as a whole community, just as we review our spiritual lives together in Lent.

Our levels of giving vary, and it is right that each one of us should give in proportion to what we receive. We did not ask you to give beyond your means, but to look at what you do give and to ask yourselves does this accurately reflect your ability to give at this moment in time. Our individual giving is of course a matter between ourselves and God, however the communal effect can be seen and measured, and in many ways.

So how can we all help? Well, there are three different ways of making a regular contribution; 1.  by direct debit.  2.  a weekly white envelope or 3.  a blue Gift Aid envelope, which can be found in the pews in St Nicholas Church. In all cases by indicating the Gift Aid declaration on the form on the opposite page, means we can reclaim the tax on your gift, and this can mount up.
