Year 5

Our Ancient Egyptian Topic

This half term, Year 5 have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We have learnt about all kinds of aspects of ancient Egypt in all subjects.

Egypt 1

First of all, at the beginning of the term we learnt a song in music called Camel Driver. After a few music lessons, the whole class could sing this song in a round. We enjoyed singing this song especially with Miss King playing the piano along with us. Also in music we tried to make Egyptian music using the musical instruments we could find in the music and drama room.

In drama, we have been acting out parts of Howard Carter, Tutankhamen and finally Lord Caernarvon. We have been hot seating characters to think about their thoughts and feelings at the time that Howard Carter, a famous archaeologist discovered the tomb of the Egyptian king Tutankhamen.

Egypt 2

In our topic books we have written 2 stories about Egypt. We have also looked at old maps of Egypt. We have written instructions on how to mummify a body and have completed a timeline. We have also learnt lots about the different Gods in ancient Egypt. We found this part really interesting as the ancient Egyptians believed in lots of different Gods, such as Atum, Nun and Seshat.

In art we have been making Beautiful pieces of Ancient Egyptian jewellery with papier mache and paint as well as creating lovely Egyptian canopic Jars out of plastic bottles, papier Mache and paint.

Finally, we have been set a piece of homework on an aspect of Egyptian life which we will be presenting to the class.
