Year 6

Year 6 French Trip 2008

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to France! We all thought it was an experience of a lifetime. We had a great time and I’m sure we would love to re-visit.

This is what we did, in chronological order:

First we travelled in the coach to The Pegasus Bridge, and had a gorgeous breakfast in the Café Gondree while watching the cars go over the bridge. Here is a picture of us (1).

Next, we travelled across the road to The Pegasus Bridge Museum. We had a wonderful time there; Mrs Gadd had prepared a quiz for us. Then a tour guide took us out onto the original Pegasus Bridge (2).

We also saw the new bridge rising (3).

The guide told us that the museum found the original bridge dumped in a field, and bought it for 1 franc. (This is 10 pence in sterling) But when they came to move it to the museum, they had to pay about €500,000 to just move it! After we had done the quiz, we met a man called Denzil; he was one of the glider pilots who landed by Pegasus Bridge in World War 2.

We then walked back down the road to where the river was, and sat in a sunny spot right opposite the Café Gondree. It was a very pleasant meal, and while we were eating our lunch, Mrs Gadd told us the story of when the Café Gondree was first liberated from the Germans.

After lunch, we travelled to a place called Arromanches, and we went to a museum to learn about the Germans and the 90,000 ton harbour. It was fascinating to hear about it!

Then came the next bit that everybody was looking forward to - dinner at the Bistro! It was a superb meal and we all thanked them very much.

Last of all, before we went to the hyper-market, we went to the German batteries which were quite close by. The first one was all desolate because it was blown up by bomb shells; we could go through the other two.

Finally we went to a big super-store called Cora. We spent about 20 minutes shopping. Last of all after a tiring but thoroughly enjoyable day, we travelled back to the ferry. We had to wait two hours until we could embark!!!!!! So we had our light supper outside the ferry terminal.

At last after a very long two hours, we embarked and had a good night sleep!!

We all enjoyed our trip, and Leena Toor (11) said “I had the time of my life!”.  And we all did!!!!!!!
